Frustration is an interactive digital mirror that breaks the body of the person who looks to it into hundreds of pieces as if it was a broken mirror.

The mirror works with a 42-inch LCD television, a computer and a camera. The camera captures the silhouette of the person and a software developed breaks the person.

Frustation is part of a series called Psychosomatics; which is formed by several electronic sculptures where each work is loaded with a kind of human emotion. Through contact with the work, the viewer will experience and revive these emotions, creating a sensible dialogue that potentiates with the use of interfaces. The emotions treated in this project are anxiety, fear, hysteria, confusion, shame and frustration. Those studies are physically embodied forming thinking, behavioral, reactive and sensitive sculptural beings, which are positioned through the interconnection of the digital with the material.

Art in Brazil (1950 -2011)

In the late 1940s, there was a growing demand for a system to determine what was and what was not modern in Brazilian art. Modernism could not provide the answer ; it had become too local and no longer provided any conventions or aesthetic definitions.
In 1952, the Grupo Ruptura was established in São Paulo and with their rationally structured, geometrical abstract works, these artists distanced themselves from the regional, obligatory Brazilian iconography and social critique of the Modernists. The Grupo Ruptura called itself the first Brazilian avant-garde movement.
This exhibition traces the evolution of Brazilian art from the 1950s until the present day and is the first exhibition in Europe to address this from a Brazilian and not a predominantly Western perspective.
There are four chronological modules in the exhibition : the 1950s, the decade 1960-70, the 1980s, and the 1990s until today. These modules are interspersed with sections that explore the work
of specific artists in more detail, including Alfredo Volpi, and the Brazilian context – for example, the role of architecture in the period of the dictatorship (1964-1985) – in which the art developed.

The 1950s : (Neo-) Concretism

It was not long before the Neoconcretists distanced themselves from the overly rational and dogmatic Concretism and returned to freedom of experiment. The artists include, amongst others, Helio Oititica, Alfredo Volpi and Lygia Clark.


The 1960s-70s : Dictatorship

From 1964 to 1985, Brazil suffered under a dictatorship. Heavy and violent censorship was a distinguishing feature both in society and the arts, but at the same time it created an artistic movement that drew
energy from the continuous struggle for freedom of expression and experimented with sidestepping the barriers.

The 1980s : The return to painting ?

The 1980s are seen as the return to painting as a reaction to the end of the dictatorship. This module shows the importance of this discipline : not only did a new generation of painters emerge, but artists from previous generations also returned to painting. At the same time, other disciplines such as sculpture, drawing, video and performance grew in importance.

The 1990s - today : Construction and deconstruction in Brazilian art

Festival des cultures et pratiques électroniques libres
Pour cette première édition, le festival ElectroPixel fait la part belle à la découverte. Entre musiques électroniques, arts numériques et autres curiosités culturelles : concerts, installations, performances et rencontres se feront écho le temps d’un week-end. ElectroPixel propose un regard sur la création artistique internationale des arts multimédia et numériques au travers ses multiples supports.

Le festival ouvre un portail numérique dans la ville permettant de croiser programmeurs, «bidouilleurs» (informatiques, circuits, machines…), inventeurs de tout bord (dorkbot et ateliers), des artistes (audio, visuel, musique, art plastique, interactif, performance…), théoriciens (philosophe, histoire de l’art, anthropologue, psychanalyse…) avec le public.

APO33 œuvre au développement et à la valorisation des arts numériques au travers de différentes actions, dont le festival ElectroPixel constitue l’un des temps forts de l’année. Cette première édition du festival interroge, agite, bouscule notre rapport à l’art expérimental, grâce à l’intervention d’artistes aux modes d’expressions inventifs et diversifiés.

Apo33 souhaite proposer une programmation pointue avec des artistes, des penseurs, des projets qui se situent à l’avant-garde des pratiques d’arts électroniques, numériques et intermédia qui serviront à terme à mieux faire connaître les pratiques émergentes, obscures, underground issues des nouveaux genres et codes contemporains nés de bifurcation insolite grâce aux technologies.

ElectroPixel est un festival de 3 jours, une occasion (pensée comme événement temporaire) de découvrir de nombreuses expériences interdisciplinaires qui sont rarement exposées aux yeux du public néophyte de la région de Nantes. Ce festival est aussi un moyen d’exposer les créations des artistes locaux de ce domaine et de les mettre en contact avec des artistes d’échelle Européenne et Internationale. Ce festival sera également l’occasion de confronter ceux qui pratiquent, pensent, proposent des formes inédites de création avec ceux qui mettent en avant des cadres de diffusion et de réflexions originaux et d’ouvrir cette voie artisitco-technologique au public.

Mobile Art. Experiencias móviles en Fundación Francisco Godia_LOOP Festival, Barcelona

La Fundación Francisco Godia presenta la exposición “Mobile Art. Experiencias móviles”, una aproximación al móvil dentro de la práctica artística contemporánea. La muestra se constituye como la primera en España y Europa que refleja no sólo la fotografía hecha con el móvil, sino un amplio panorama de creación artística. Comisariada por Lorea Iglesias, doctoranda en Comunicación Audiovisual que ha centrado su investigación en torno al Mobile Art, los trabajos que se presentan, en formato vídeo e instalación, pertenecen a diferentes artistas españoles e internacionales cuyo nexo común es la presencia del móvil como elemento determinante en sus propuestas, tanto en el plano conceptual como en el de la materialización. La exposición, que se podrá visitar del 12 de mayo al 20 de junio de 2011, se enmarca dentro del Festival LOOP y supone la participación entre la fundación y el festival internacional de videoarte por tercer año consecutivo.

En 2008 España superó la cifra de las 50 millones de líneas telefónicas con una población total de 47 millones de habitantes, lo que supone que en nuestro país hay actualmente más móviles que personas. La aparición de nuevos y mejores terminales móviles permite a los artistas apropiarse de esta herramienta y beneficiarse de diferentes aspectos como son la inmediatez, la portabilidad permanente, lo económico del dispositivo o las infinitas posibilidades técnicas que actualmente ofrecen algunos terminales como las cámaras de hasta 8 mega píxeles, la grabación en vídeo en HD o el GPS, entre otras.

Mobile Art. Experiencias móviles se ha ideado como una plataforma para dar visibilidad a este tipo de prácticas artísticas emergentes realizadas a través del móvil, pero también como una pregunta abierta que invite a interrogarse a cerca de la incidencia e integración de los dispositivos móviles en los procesos creativos más actuales. La muestra también quiere ser una prueba de la apropiación social y artística de esta tecnología de comunicación, cuyas nuevas características como la movi­lidad, la portabilidad o la convergencia están influyendo y provocando cambios en nuestra vida diaria.

Era cuestión de poco tiempo que el mundo del arte empezara a interesarse por el movimiento del Mobile Art y ya en 2008 tuvo lugar la primera exposición de fotografías tomadas con un móvil en Pamplona de la mano de Javier Castañeda, uno de los participantes de esta exposición. A partir de la popularización del iPhone en el 2009, se llevan a cabo diferentes exposiciones en más de 40 ciudades distintas a nivel mundial: Melbourne, Filadelfia, Milán, Madrid, Singapur, Berlín, y también en Cataluña, el Centre d’Art La Panera de Lleida presentó el trabajo de seis iPhoneógrafos.

Más allá de las exposiciones centradas en las fotografías tomadas con el móvil, o con el iPhone, la exposición parte del Mobile Art como un concepto amplio y en construcción que, más allá de una rígida alusión a un tipo concreto de formato artístico (el arte vinculado a la telefonía móvil), sirve de pretexto para reflexionar sobre la potencialidad creativa y experimental de esta herramienta, así como para profundizar en la amplitud de sus posibilidades comunicativas y de creación de nuevas identidades.

La exposición, centrada en la creación audiovisual, y en coherencia con la filosofía que anima el festival en el que se inserta, ha aplicado como criterio de selección el dar cabida a aquellas piezas en las que la tecnología móvil ha facilitado la apertura nuevas vías de experimentación creativa, fundamental­mente en el ámbito del video arte. La selección se complementa con la presencia puntual de obras en for­mato fotográfico así como con una abundante selección de material de consulta (selección bibliográfica, consulta on-line y vídeos que muestran otros proyectos de Mobile Art) con el objetivo final de poder reflejar la diversidad de las propuestas actuales.

La comisaria, Lorea Iglesias
Lorea Iglesias (Donostia, 1977) se licenció en Historia del Arte por la Universidad de Salamanca. Tras la licenciatura comienza su especialización en arte contemporáneo en la Universidad de Deusto, pero su interés por la exhibición del arte actual le llevará a cursar estudios de Museología para posteriormente centrar su formación en torno al arte electrónico, especializándose en Comisariado y Prácticas Culturales en Arte y Nuevos Medios en Barcelona. Es en este periodo cuando comienza su investigación sobre El Uso del Teléfono Móvil en las Prácticas Artísticas, investigación que lleva a cabo en el programa de Doctorado de Comunicación Audiovisual de la Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona, convirtiéndose en doctoranda en Comunicación Audiovisual centrando su investigación en torno al Mobile Art. Actualmente trabaja como coordinadora del Movil Film Fest, en diferentes proyectos artísticos vinculados a la comunicación móvil y desde hace más de tres años forma parte del equipo de la Fundación Francisco Godia.

''ThroughtOut Breathing''

Es una escultura que respira junto con el espectador. La máquina acompaña, amplifica y expande el acto de respirar a través de un interface y del espacio.
El usuario respira en un micrófono customizado y la escultura comienza a respirara en conjunto con él, aumentando y distordsionando el sonido de la respiración.
El proyecto busca ampliar la acción de respirar a través de la utilización de elementos oníricos que todos juntos componen una especie de orquesta performático misteriosa. Creándose una relación rítmica entre el usuario y la máquina, donde el público pueda sentir la expansión de la respiración dentro de un espacio lleno de sonido, movimientos y percepciones de los sentidos.

Forma parte también de la exposición una serie de dibujos iluminados y pulmones que respiran, ambos enseñando el universo inconsciente de la escultura donde se crea una relación entre lo orgánico y lo sintético, y entre la máquina y el humano.

The exhibition offers a panorama of installations borrowed from the repertoire of science fiction: visual and sound installations, machines, 3D videos, robots, video games and more.

By combining scientific research and contemporary artistic creation, some works have developed a “paranoid” vision of the contemporary world that both reflects its evolution and the society envisioned by the “Cyber Punks”, of which William Gibson is the precursor.

This exhibition will present us with an imaginary, funny and frightening vision of a futuristic society perpetually questioning itself. Through new technologies, French, German, American, Belgian, Canadian, or even Dutch artists will invite you to enter into dialogue with machines, through works that will appeal to all the senses.
