Piksel 08

Expanded Eye is going to be exhibited at Piksel 08 Festival from December 12th until January 15th, Bergen, Norway.

**Piksel08: code dreams

How does code dream? What are the dreams of code?

Piksel08 examines the other side of code, an alternative side to a hard-coded reality of work and play. Open hardware and free software project a utopic vision, yet exist within economies of capital, the dream factory of
mainstream technology. Within the chance meeting of sewing machine and umbrella on the dissecting table, hardware and software are flattened.

Piksel08: code dreams explores the dreams of this soft machine; bachelors coding for pleasure, reverse engineering paranoiac constructs of the real, automatic coding practice, soft hardware, and everyday magic.

The 5th Seoul International Media Art Biennale

The 5th Seoul International Media Art Biennale, also known as the Media City Seoul 2008, will be held at the Seoul Museum of Art from September 12 through November 5. With the first exhibition held in 2000 and the fifth this year, the Seoul International Media Art Biennale has continually served as a stage for the historical evolution of new media art – as opposed to most other exhibitions devoted to this genre being no more than single-bout events – and positioned itself as one of the leading festivities garnering major attention both within and outside the country.

The fifth Biennale, in particular, is of the significance that it serves as a retrospective review of past exhibitions and a preparation for the coming decade. Accordingly, this year’s exhibition is intended to ask and search for answers, in a diverse array of exhibits, to such fundamental yet essential questions as: What is new media art? What could be some of the differences in traditional art and new media art? What artistic changes has new media art brought? And what influences new media art could have on art at large in coming years?

FILE Festival 2008

Connected Memories at FILE 2008 MILLION PIXELS, Sao Paulo, Brazil.

August 05 to 31, 2008

FILE 2008 Electronic Language International Festival happens this year at the Fiesp Cultural Center, on August 05 to 31 (August 4th - Official opening for guests), Tuesday to Saturday 10 am-8 pm, Monday 11 am-8 pm, and Sunday 10 am-7 pm. The program occupies the Cultural Center's Art Gallery, Theater and Mezzanine, which host the exhibition, performances and lectures. FILE, the major art and technology festival in Brazil and Latin America, as well as one of the most renowned events in the world in this area, for nine years has inserted the country in the global context of art and technology, or media art, performing a compilation of the artistic productions in the fields of electronic and digital arts, and working as an indicator of those productions' plurality. Given the diversity of digital culture, FILE is an event that nests several festivals, which occur simultaneously. Moreover, FILE offers an international symposium, an archive with more than 2,000 works and a laboratory for the production and development of new works, FILE Labo. FILE is an annual event that in 2008 has happened, with other versions, in Porto Alegre, at Santander Cultural, and in Rio de Janeiro, at Oi Futuro. This ninth edition of FILE includes around 300 artists - among groups, collectives and individual works - from more than 30 nationalities, with works in different areas of the digital culture.
